Growing with a Purpose!

Growing with a Purpose!

Wow!  What a journey!  Many of you already know that we purchased our own property and renovated and old history 1930's building for the new location of A New Life Herb's Coffee & Tea Cafe! The old Yoyo's Inn located in Somerville, TN has a rich and unique history.  Originally built in the 1930's as an old honkey tonk bar was burned down after just 3 years.  It was rebuilt as the stone building that you see today and continued on as a honkytonk bar.  In fact, it was the only place that served alcohol between Memphis and Middleton so many people passing through would stop by.  It was well known for its live music and frequented by many famous musicians, such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley (before they were big time).  It is even said that Elvis got his butt kicked in this very spot, though he is no longer here to tell his side of the story.  Apparently, it was pretty rough at times because I've heard tons of testimony's of the ladies coming to listen to the music but they were not allowed inside.  I suppose there was one crowd partying inside and dancing on the dance floor and another younger crowd enjoying it from a distance.  Through out the years, the old Yoyo's building has been home to many diverse businesses, from a funeral home to a nursery, and from southern home cooking and a BBQ joint to a Chinese restaurant.  Now the old Yoyo's gets A New Life!  It has been renovated and revived to become the home of A New Life Herbs Coffee & Cafe.  Where as the old Yoyo's once specialized in Hops, we now specialize in many more herbs than that.  Sure, we have plenty of herbs to help you relax and lift your mood but we go much deeper into helping bring healing to ones body through the natural use of herbs for literally whatever ails you.  The old Yoyo's had it's share of fermented beverages but we carry one that they did not... kombucha!  Kombucha is a fermented tea with tons of health benefits and great for the gut as it is loaded with probiotics and digestive enzymes.  The old Yoyo's building at one point focused on end of life as a funeral home and beginning of life as a nursery but we at A New Life Herb's focus on quality of life.  I would imagine that many of the restaurants that once operated out of the old Yoyo's building were in fact 'farm to table' because that is how everything once was but now A New Life Herbs Coffee & Cafe is one of the only 'farm to table' establishments in Fayette County.  We offer deliciously real food!  We raise out all of our own chicken and pork on our farm and buy from local farmers whenever we are able.  We also source our bread and deli meat from our Mennonite friends at Backermann's Country Market.  Our coffee comes freshly roasted to us each week from a local small business and all of our syrups for our specialty coffee beverages are made in house with real ingredients and a whole lot of love!  The old Yoyo's was once a sought after destination as the only bar around.  A New Life Herbs Coffee & Cafe hopes to be the most sought after herb shop, coffee shop, and restaurant in West Tennessee located in the quiet little town of Somerville!  Here's a little more of our plans as we dream big!  We are starting the Somerville Farmer's Market and have a great number of local farmers and artisans ready to share their giftings and talents with our town.  This is an incredible opportunity for our community to support local farmers and artisans while stocking up on nourishing fresh veggies, food items, and more.  We are also starting a community garden which will be growing each year.  We are looking forward to working along side our neighbors and joining in the bounty together.  In addition to all of this, we look forward to starting a food pantry with the fruits and veggies we are blessed with to help support the poor in our area.  If you'd allow me to dream a little more, I envision a Farm & Garden Center located on the back of the property where we will offer farm & garden products but also a place for us the teach classes to empower our youth and equip our community!  I feel like I could go on and on dreaming big but instead, I invite you to join in the process!  God teaches us that each one of us will be held accountable for the talents He has given us.  Keeping that in mind, let's come together bringing our diversity and talents and lets love our neighbor as ourselves!

So....on May 31st we had our very first Farmer's Market and let me just tell you it was a huge success with over 16 vendors and tons of community support.
