Boswellic Acid is extracted from Frankincense and works very effectively to assist the body in a healthy inflammatory response.  Boswellia actually inhibits the production of Lipoxygenace which produces leukotrienes which play a major role in inflammatory diseases and a host of other illnesses. Thus, it seems to stop the inflammatory response and thereby prevent further tissue breakdown.  It also may improve blood supply to the joints.
